The Irish Museum of Modern Art was established in 1990 in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, the finest 17th-century building in Ireland as Ireland’s first national institution for the collection of Irelands Modern and contemporary art. The Museum presents a wide variety of art in a dynamic programme of exhibitions working with artist nationally and internationally.

IMMA has over 3,500 artworks by Irish and Artists from all over the world. The collection is deep-rooted in the present and new and important works are continuously added to the collection each year.

The exhibitions change regularly and usually last three to four months and up to four shows can be viewed at any one time. Past exhibitions include of James Coleman, Terry Winters, Elizabeth Peyton, Alan Phelan and more. The exhibitions shown range from painting and sculpture to installation, photography video and performance.

Tuesday - Friday:

Saturday: 
10.00am - 5.30pm

Sunday and Bank Holidays:
12noon - 5.30pm

Monday: Closed

Admission = Free except for occasional special exhibitions

HOW TO GET THERE

By Luas:  Take Red line Luas to Heuston Station from Abbey Street which is about 5 min walk from the hotel, Once you get off the Luas the Museum is Approximately  8 minute walk to the entrance on Military Road.

By bus: Buses to Heuston Station from Aston Quay are (145, 79 and 79a).. Buses from O'Connell St and Dame St (13, 40, 123)

By car: Approximately 20 minute drive from the Castle Hotel. Parking just €2 for the first three hours.
