Hugh Lane Art Gallery

The Gallery is the home to many fantastic collections of works by artists such as Claude Monet, Edgar Degas and Jack B.Yeats, you will get to experience such unique pieces such as a couch made with thousands of hairclips or an oil painting squeezed into a canvas in thick colourful blobs! This gallery is a place for the whole family to enjoy a fantastic experience.

Also located here is the  reconstructed studio of  Francis Bacon. Francis Bacon was born in Dublin in 1909 and lived in Co. Kildare, when he was 16 he travelled the world and visited lots of museums and galleries, when he saw the exhibition on Picasso’s work he was instantly inspired to pick up a brush and become an artist himself. The contents of his original studio at 7 Reece Mews were removed in August 1998 and relocated to the Hugh Lane Gallery piece by piece. This operation was conducted with the assistance of a team of archaeologists who mapped the space, and tagged and noted the positions of the objects. The reconstructed studio features the original door, walls, floors, ceiling and shelves. Over 7,000 items were found in the studio and these were catalogued on a specially designed database before their replacement in the studio.

There is also a children’s workshop located in Hugh Lane, which gives children, teachers, adult and families the opportunity to explore the fantastic collection and temporary exhibition the gallery has to offer. The new multi-purpose space allows for additional experimentation. For children’s workshops you can drop in or call the gallery for bookings

The Gallery is located on Charlemont House, Parnell Square North, which is only a 5-minute walk from the Castle Hotel.
