Christmas Shopping on Henry Street

Henry Street is one of the principal shopping streets of Dublin City Centre. Located perpendicular to the middle of O'Connell Street, it begins at Dublin's Spire and stretches west as far as Liffey Street, where it becomes Mary Street.

It is a fully pedestrianised street and has over 200 shops. During Christmas this impressive boulevard takes on a festive transformation. The annual lighting of the outdoor Christmas decorations will take place at the end of November, and while it may not be celebrated the same way this year, it won't take away from the magical feeling you will get walking under the iconic twinkling lights. It is a longstanding feeling that, once the street is illuminated with it's sparkling decorations, the Christmas Shopping Season can officially begin! Find high-end designer labels at Arnotts Department Store or visit Dublin's original Primark, known here as Penneys on Mary Street.

Two of Dublin's main shopping centres, Ilac and Jervis (see our top 10 shopping destinations) are situated on the further end of Henry Street. These will also be flooded with the merriment and charm which the seasonal trees, bells and baubles . Their Christmas displays have long become a must see during the festive season - especially Santa climbing up that rope in Jervis!! Will he ever get to the top?

Mary Street also meets Capel Street which is now hosts markets and is now home to vibrant café, bars and boutique shops.

Whether you're looking for the perfect gift for a loved one or simply want to soak up the festive atmosphere, Henry Street and Mary Street are the perfect places to do your Christmas shopping in Dublin.
