Airfield Estate

On a stunning 38 Acre Estate, Airfield House, gardens and farm are a fantastic day out to enjoy with adults and children of all ages. Originally belonging to the Overend family, specifically the two sisters Letitia and Naomi, the estate has been developed in their memory and forward thinking aspirations.

The House itself holds an interactive tour and exhibition giving insight into the sisters’ fascinating lives and the charity work they were well known for. Their love of travel and cars brought them to many corners of the world and this can be seen in the displays of photographs, letters, vintage clothing and Victorian toys & books on show throughout the house. Their favourite cars are also lovingly kept in the Vintage Car Garage.

Following their same ideals through to the exterior areas of the property, the farm is run with sustainability at the forefront. They have cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, and donkeys to name but a few of their animals, all of which you can visit. They have a fully working farm with prizewinning Jersey herd where you can witness the succession of farm to table up front. The farm has daily interactive activities to get everyone involved from egg collecting at 10am, milking the cows at 10.30am, Heritage Tour of Airfield at 12:00 AM and 2 PM, Storytime at 12:30 PM and Food Garden Tour at 3:00 PM.

Their impressive gardens include; the Organic Food Garden that provides a bounty of produce for both their Restaurants and Farmers Market; the Orchard Border planted to attract beneficial pollinators to their fruiting trees and shrubs; the Greenhouse garden housed in the lovingly restored Victorian Glasshouse; the Walled Garden with beautiful herbaceous borders; the Potting Shed Border with a unique warmer aspect allowing for unusual tropical plants to thrive; and last but not least the Sunken Garden at the entrance of the Estate themed around infusing ornamental & edible planting.

The Overend Kitchen restaurant and weekly Farmers Market prides itself on connecting farmer to eater and land to table. You can guarantee that their food has been freshly prepared and it has been sourced from either the estates’ farm, garden or one of the local providers with the same ethos.

The market runs every Friday and Saturday 9.30pm-2.30pm and there are many stalls with homegrown and locally produced food such as chutneys, jams & preserves, breads & pastries, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

If that wasn’t enough to see and the children are still full of energy, why not bring them on one of the many woodland walks or to the outdoor adventure playground? There is plenty to wear them out from swings, slides, climbing frames, ziplines, tunnels and more.
