The Moving Crib

21st November 2017 - 8th January 2018 at 42 Parnell Street, Dublin 1.

The Moving Crib is located at Saint Martin’s Apostolate, 42 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, just a 5 minute walk from The Castle Hotel. The Moving Crib has been running for many years and is one of the most memorable assets of Christmas in Dublin City. It has fascinated generations of families from Dublin and visitors from all over the world for over 50 years and reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas in an unforgettable and fascinating manner.

There are over 100 figures in the crib and all are made from Paper-Mache and dressed in miniature clothes. There are motors programmed inside to control the movement of their arms, head and legs. The Moving Crib is like an expanded Nativity Play which covers various episodes of the New and Old Testament going back to Adam and Eve and finishing after the crib scene with the young Jesus teaching the doctors in the Temple.The Moving crib is open every year from end November to the first week in January, it is a cost free event and well worth a visit.

A Night Before Christmas

17th December 2017 at the the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire. 

A story is told at every Irish gathering, no matter the occasion. So, if you are lucky to be in Ireland during the December period and you like to listen to stories that will fill you of joy and he holiday feeling, you will have to go to the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire and listen to some of Ireland’s most talented actors and musicians as they will take to the stage to perform magnificent stories to lull you into that peaceful yuletide mood.

Christmas Craft Fair - RDS

5th - 10th December 2017 at the RDS Arena

For those who love shopping it’s the chance to browse and enjoy the unique work of more than 500 designers, artists, and craftspeople who will be taking part in the country’s largest celebration of crafts. But if shopping just isn’t your thing, think of it as a heaven sent opportunity to buy all your Christmas gifts in a single shopping session! This annual fair is widely recognised as Ireland’s premier commercial craftwork showcase. Many of Ireland’s most respected craftspeople will be there, showing and selling top quality goods. The range is dazzling – everything from chocolates to high fashion, and because the goods are handmade by craftspeople, they have the added distinction of each one being unique.

Funderland, iSkate on Ice- Ireland’s only outdoor ice rink, and a Continental Christmas Market. Winter Wonderland will be a festival to delight the senses and capture the joy and fun of the season – all in one location at the RDS in Hall 8C.

It's a Wonderful Life is a 1946 American Christmas fantasy comedy-drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra. The 

film is considered one of the most loved films in American cinema and has become traditional viewing during the Christmas season.
The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams in order to help others and whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched and how different life in his community of Bedford Falls would be had he never been born.

Santa Dash

15th December 2017 - Celine Byrne Christmas Gala at The  Bord Gáis Energy Theatre

Celine Byrne is one of Ireland’s foremost operatic stars having made her debut in Scottish Opera’s La bohème, and going on to perform at some of the world’s most illustrious venues including the Royal Opera House in London.

The London Concertante perform a gorgeous candlelit evening of Baroque music at St Patrick’s Cathedral. 
This particular concert will see the ensemble take on Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, Vivaldi’s Winter from the Four Seasons, and Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor alongside music from Telemann, Handel and Piazzolla.

Vladimir's Viennese Christmas

20th December - Vladimir's Viennese Christmas at The National Concert Hall

Vladimir arrived in Ireland from Slovakia 10 years ago. Originally only planning to stay in Ireland for a few months; he soon found work and money hard to come by. Having little English, he quickly decided to let his music do the talking and started busking on Grafton Street. Getting a taste for live performance, he formed the Slovak Festival Quartet in 2006 with some friends.
Relax in the gorgeous auditorium and hear Vladimir, accompanied by soprano Claudia Boyle, tenor Sean Constello and the Jablokov family, perform favourite Christmas sounds like In Dulci Jubilo, Ave Maria, and O Holy Night.

Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo

3rd November - 7th January - Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo

This is sure to be a a magical event, featuring giant colourful lanterns and illuminated animal sculptures inspired by wildlife.
You can follow the enchanted trail where you will discover the dazzling array of beautifully crafted giant silk lanterns.
There will also be Chinese performers and a Chinese craft market! You can enjoy some lovely Chinese foods and warm drinks this winter at Dublin Zoo!
Wild Lights promises to be a truly unforgettable experience where friends, families and groups can come together to celebrate the festive period.

An Irish Carol, Christmas Trees, and a Rose

9th December 2017 at Christ Church Cathedral 

This year’s Chamber Choir Ireland concert An Irish Carol, Christmas Trees, and a Rose is a real treat for the senses in the run up to the holidays.
In this unique Christmas programme, the wonderful Christmas Story by one of Germany’s finest 20th-century composers, Hugo Distler, is told in chant-like solos with choral interventions, threaded through with a series of choral variations on the lovely Christmas hymn ‘Es ist ein Ros entsprungen‘.

Santa at Croke Park

25th November until 23rd December - Santa at Croke Park

This wonderful new winter experience for families is sure to be a hit, especially those with a passion for Gaelic games. There will be plenty of beautiful festive family photo opportunities with Santa and Stitch during the tour, and a professional photographer will also be on hand to capture the moment.  
This event also includes free admission to the GAA Museum, where families can discover two floors of interactive exhibits. Children can pick up their Junior Explorer passport and follow the special route which highlights some of the most fascinating and famous exhibitions, including the original Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy cups. A highlight for many is the museum’s Interactive Games Zone, where you can test your own hurling and football skills – see how fast your family can react, check your passing skills and practice a fingertip save or the art of the high catch!   
The festivities get underway from Saturday, November 25th, and will run on select dates until Saturday, December 23rd. Dates sell quickly and pre-booking online is essential to avoid disappointment. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and tickets, priced at €10 for adults, €16 for children 2 years and over, and €8 for children aged 1–2, are now available via the link below. Children under 1 go free.

One of the main Dublin Christmas events is back this year and it's even bigger than previous years.
This ia a FREE event!
This is an event full of festive entertainment.
The main tree lighting event will take place at 7.10pm, with VIP Santa himself in attendance!
There will be market stalls with a range of delicious foods, arts and crafts.

Downtown Big Band Christmas Show! Fundraiser for the Simon Community!

This year's Christmas Show will have a 21 pieve jazz band with special guest singers! This  incredible lineup with music from artists such as Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Robbie Williams, Michael Buble, Gordon Goodwin and plenty of funky Christmas Tunes to get you up on the floor dancing!!
This show will be in aid of The Simon Community to help support them in the work that they do for the homeless community in Ireland.
All proceeds from this show will be donated to the charity so grab a ticket, sit back and get ready for a night of dancing, drinks and Big Band Music!

Fiddle Duo Manus & Séamus McGuire at ITMA

25h December at Merrion Square 

Both award winning musicians, they have recorded a number of albums together including Humours of Lisadell and Carousel. In the 1980s they formed the band Buttons and Bows with Jakie Daly and Garry O’Brien, a group that would prove to be one of the most influential in Ireland at the time.
Irish Traditional Music Archive is delighted to welcome Manus & Séamus to Merrion Square for what promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music.
