Christmas Markets and Fairs

Christmas is coming soon and so are Dublin's Christmas Markets and Fairs All have a wonderful atmosphere and a great variety of gifts and trinkets for you to choose from.

 

Dublin Docklands Christmas Market

From December 12th to 23rd the  Dublin Docklands Christmas Festival will take place. This year will see it in its 9th consecutive year and the festival continues to bring Christmas cheer and festive treats to its visitors.

Magical Christmas gifts, decor and treats will all be on hand along with a few surprises.

This year also brings an Entertainment area, Artison Food Market, Crafts Markets, Victorian Carnival and of course not forgetting Santa's Grotto!!

This event will all take place at the IFSC on Georges Dock from 12 noon to 8pm Mondays to Wednesdays, from 12 noon to 10pm Thursday and Fridays, from 10am to 10pm on Saturdays and from 10am to pm on Sundays.

Entry is free of charge, so bring all the family along to celebrate in the Christmas spirit right in the heart of Dublin City Centre.

 

Continental Market

 Take a rest from all the festive fun and pop over and have a look through some of the many fine foods on offer at the Continental Market that is taking place as part of the Christmas Wonderland at the RDS.

 Various selections will be on offer at the markets and something to all the families taste!

 Christmas Wonderland is taking place from December 6th 2013 to January 12th 2014.

 Take bus numer 4, 7 or 8 from O Connell Street heading Southbound to reach the RDS.

 
Christmas Craft Fair

Christmas Craft Fair will take place at Trinity Bar and Venue on Dame Street, Dublin 2 on December 7th & 8th, 14th & 15th and 21st & 22nd.

Visitors to the Craft Fair can avail of many fine goods with a huge selection to choose from. Many crafts will be on display from jewellery, unique hand crafted goodies, cakes, paintings, knitwear, soaps, pottery, clothing, cards, kids toys, wood turning and framed photography.

Many local and overseas artists gather together and take their place at the crafts stands to show off their fabulous work to the visitors over the Christmas Season.

Children's face painting, Music, kids fun and sugar sweet goodies will be available as well as hot food and beverages for all.


Christmas Cracker Flea Market 

The Christmas Cracker Flea Market returns to Smithfield from December 13th to 15th. This special edition Christmas Cracker has had a successful turnout in previous years and once again in running for 2 days of Christmas madness!

This will mark the 3rd successive year for the Christmas Cracker Flea Market and visitors can avail of more than 100 stalls to chose from, ranging from clothes, vintage clothes, arts and crafts, gifts, chocolates, Christmas cards, toys, antiques, furniture and much more.

There is a huge selection to choose from and being it so close to Christmas you might find that something special you have been looking for that fussy friend!

Admission to the market is free of charge.


Christ Church Cathedral Christmas Market

Following its phenomenal success last year, Christ Church Cathedral is delighted to announce that the return of their annual Christmas Market on three Saturdays in December: Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st from 11am until 4pm.

Now in its fourth year, the Market is held indoors in the 12th Century crypt, creating an intimate festive shopping experience. There will also be food stalls outside in the Cathedral grounds and entry to the market will be free.


Dublin Castle Traditional Festive Market

During Christmas time Dublin Castle provides a traditional Christmas market each Saturday and Sunday from the 30th of November until the 22nd of December 2013. Choirs at 1.30pm and 3.30 will put you in the right Christmas spirit while you may enjoy mulled wine or a hot chocolate.

Christmas vendors provide a variety of Christmas foods and drinks like gingerbread cookies or traditional chimney cake. There will be also a craft fair on the 15th of December from 10am until 5pm inside the Bedford Hall. Irelands’ best artists and designers have been invited to this event and will display and sell their work like hand knitted scarves, beautiful ceramics

 
Dame District Christmas Market

 From the 13th until the 22nd of December 2013 the Dame District Christmas Market is taking place at Dame Court in Dublin city centre. It opens daily from 12:00pm and is located behind Dame Street and parallel to George’s Street. The Dame District Christmas Market has been taking place successfully the last three years and promises this year to be better than ever. Over 24 stalls are part of this market and offer fudge, drinks, food, crafts, hand crafted jewellery, gourmet food as well as wooden toys so something for everyone. During the night the market provides a daily free concert on the Christmas Stage. Next to the famous Christmas Stage the market has two other stages for even more Christmas entertainment. The perfect day for the family would be Saturday or Sunday as the market offers on these days a Kids Christmas Day. Kids will have the chance to get their faces painted, to play over sized games or to dance in the children’s disco.

 
Christmas Winter Wonderlant at Ashtown Castle

 Every weekend in December the Ashtown Castle in the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre offers a wonderful Christmas Winter Wonderland. The Wonderland opens from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and you will find a selection of talented craft makers who will display and represent their wares. If you are looking for great Christmas gifts this would be the perfect opportunity as they sell knitwear, table centres, woodcrafted items, Christmas candles, oils, Christmas sculptures and many more. If you visit the Wonderland with your kids you should be there on Sundays between 1:00pm and 5:00pm, as Santa will appear. Moreover kids have the chance to listen to Christmas stories in the 16th century tower beside the courtyard each Sunday at 1:30pm and 3:00pm. The Christmas Choir will ensure that you get into the Christmas spirits as they sing Christmas carols and songs each Sunday from 2:00pm. So why not making a trip to Phoenix Park while you are staying at the Castle Hotel. You can take bus number 46a from Parnell Square, which is only a 5 minutes walk from our hotel.


Designer Dublin Christmas Market

If you are interested in design and art you should not miss the Designer Dublin Christmas market on the 19th of December 2013 at College Green. The market starts at 10am and will end by 5pm. About thirty Irish craftspeople and designers are going to represent their work. You will have the chance to purchase Irish-made jewellery, furniture, ceramics, fashion as well as craft. Exhibitors for this one day only event include: Grainne Lyons who creates furniture and lighting design, Christina Keogh who is known for her pretty jewellery as well as Stencilize, the Planet Purple Kids and Clover Rua.


 Point Village Christmas Market

This year the Point Village offers a Christmas market from the 28th of November until the 23rd of December 2013. The market opens daily from 12pm until 8pm. You will find many different stalls that provide various types of food and gifts. You can enjoy a BBQ Bratwurst, a Hot Chocolate, Chinese Noodles or something delicious from the Christmas Bakery. Also part of this market are stalls of The Simon Community and Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Carol Singing around the Christmas tree is going to provide a festive Christmas atmosphere at the market. If you are a fan of ice-skating you should not miss the opportunity to ice skate at the Winterfest Ice Rink. It can accommodate up to 250 at the same time and in the evening ice hockey competitions are being held. Prices vary from 10€ up to 14€ per person.

Point Village is located next to the O2 and you can take the Red Luas from Abbey Street to get there.


White Lady Christmas Craft Market

If you love jewellery and clothes you should have a look at the White Lady Christmas

Craft Market on 14 Wellington Quay close to Temple Bar. This market ideal for gift shopping as well as buying some stuff for your-self. They do offer jewellery, crafts and this market also gives you nice alternative gift ideas. The market opens until the 20th of December every Friday Saturday and Sunday from 12 o’clock until 7pm.


Farmleigh House Christmas market

Every weekend from the 14th of December special Christmas events are taking place around the Farmleigh House.

On Saturday the 14th of December a Christmas Food market is taking place on the Farmyard from 10:00 am until 5:00pm as well a Festive Crib that is taking place outside. The Victorian Christmas Expedience opens at the courtyard at 12:00pm and finishes by 5:00 pm. A magic show is being held in the Cowshed Theatre at 12:00 pm, 1:45pm and 3:30pm. Children have the chance to listen to stories told by Amy Creighton at the old kitchen during the day. You can also enjoy Carol Singing with St. Mary’s Chorale in the Ballroom two times during the day. At 2:00pm and 4:00pm you can enjoy Barbershop Melodies with The Mellowchords.

Sunday the 15th of December the Christmas Food Market opens from 10:00 am until 5:00pm, the Festive Crib is open from 10:00 until 5:00pm and the Victorian Christmas Experience at the courtyard opens from 11:00 am until 5:00pm. Children can enjoy a Puppet Show “Mr. Cool’s Muppet Christmas” at the Cowshed Theatre during the day or listen to stories told by Amy Creighton in the Old Kitchen. When your kids like horses you should not miss the Horse and Carriage Rides between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.  If you want to enjoy some music can get the chance to listen to the Barbershop Melodies with the Mellowchords or Carol Singing with the Firehouse singer at the Ballroom.

On Saturday the 21st of December the Farmleigh House invites visitors to their Christmas Food Market from 10:00 am until 5:00pm, to the Festive Crib is open from 10:00am until 5:00pm as well as to the Victorian Christmas Experience from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Children can enjoy a Puppet Show at the Cowshed Theatre or listen to stories told by Danielle Allision and Sue Brown at the Old Kitchen. The Mellowchords and the Dublin Welsh Male Choir provide some Christmas music entertainment on this day.

On Sunday the 22nd of December you can enjoy a wander around the Christmas Food market, the Festive Crib or the Victorian Christmas Experience until 5:00pm. For children the Farmleigh House offers a Puppet Show, Storytelling with Danielle Allision and Sue Brown or horse and carriage Rides. Barbershop Melodies with the Mellowchords are going to be held outside from 12:00 pm until 4:00pm and Carol Singing is taking place with Cantando in the Ballroom from 1:30pm until 3:30pm.

If you would like to spend a nice day around the Farmleigh House you can take bus number 37 from Baggot Street, which is only a 10 minutes walk from our hotel.
