Butlers Chocolate Experience
Ever wondered what really goes on behind the doors of a working chocolate factory? Would you like to discover where Butlers chocolate comes from and how it is made? Then Butlers Chocolate Experience is for you.
Butlers Chocolate was founded by Marion Butler and first opened its doors in Dublin’s Lad Lane in 1932; Marion named her luxurious chocolate creations “Chez Nous Chocolates”. Making these chocolates by hand she went on to establish her own company in the heart of Georgian Dublin. Business kept growing for Marion until 1959 when the company was bought over by Seamus Sorensen from Cork. To this day the company is still owned by Seamus and the Sorensen family.
Butlers was originally only a chocolate factory whereas now it is one of Dublin’s most popular tourist attractions as it has become one of the top “Must Do’s” in Dublin. Located in Dublin 17, the factory is open to give everyone the opportunity to experience the great wonder of where chocolate comes from and how it’s made.
What you can do at the Butlers Chocolate experience:
Watch the Butlers Chocolate Movie
Wander around the Butlers Chocolate Museum
Follow the chocolate time line
Savour the chocolate aroma from the chocolate gallery as you enjoy the panoramic vista of the Butlers Chocolate Factory
Visit the Experience room to enjoy a demonstration of how chocolates are created and filled, then you will get the opportunity to dress just like a Butlers chocolatier to decorate your own chocolate creation, which you can then bring home as a souvenir of your visit.
Tour Times: Tours run daily at 10:00, 12:00 and 13:30 Monday – Sunday. Please note the factory does not operate at weekends and tour times may be subject to change.
The Butlers Chocolate Experience is located in Clonshaugh Business Park, just 15 minute drive from the Castle Hotel. Alternatively you can take the number 27b bus from Eden Quay (10 minute walk from the hotel) and the journey will take approx. 25 minutes.
