St. Patrick’s Festival 2014

 
Thursday 13th March to 17th March - Irish Craft Beer & Food Market:

A celebration of Irish crafts brewing, Irish whiskey and Irish artisan food. An indoor event so you don’t need to worry about the weather as you browse the stalls, enjoy a master class to two and soak up the festive atmosphere and live music

Location: inside CHQ, IFSC, Dublin 1

Thursday 13th (5pm-10pm), Friday 14th - Monday 17th (12.30pm-10pm)

Price: Free before 6pm Thursday 13th & Friday 14th, after 6pm entry is €5

Friday 14th March to 18th March - In the footsteps of St. Patrick- Walking Tour:

Take a guided tour to St. Patricks Cathedral to celebrate Ireland’s national patron saint, led by author Pat Liddy. The tour will uncover some fascinating stories about the legacy of St. Patrick and all that followed! The tour will take you to some famous ancient sites and also to some medieval cathedrals such as Christ Church and St. Patricks Cathedral.

Location: Discover Ireland Centre, Suffolk Street

Time: 11:00am and 2:30pm

Price: The tour costs €14.00 (€12.00 senior or student) per person including entrance into St. Patricks Cathedral, Under 16s with an adult are free on walk but €4.00 entry into Cathedral.

 



Friday 14th March – Greening The City:

Watch as some of Dublin’s most iconic buildings Go Green to celebrate the Festival with us.

Location: Iconic Buildings across Dublin

Time: 4pm

Friday 14th March - Festival Céilí:

Gather in St Stephens Green for a day to remember with your dancing shoes on as you take part in and Irish Ceili. Learn the traditional dancing steps and sing along to some live traditional Irish music and enjoy a great atmosphere.

Friday 14th March to 17th March - City at Play:  

A great day out for the whole family with Fun Fairs in a number of locations across the city. From carousels to roller coasters to Ferris wheels, there is something for everyone!

Saturday 15th March 2014 – Festival Treasure Hunt

This is an event you won’t want to miss for families with people of all ages!  Follow your treasure hunt through some of Dublin’s famous landmark building. Solve all the mystery clues and race back to the Treasure Hunt base at City Hall to record your great adventure and there are some great prizes for the winners!

You will need to register online, registering line will open soon!

How to Play:
• Enter in teams of four
• Register at City Hall and receive your team pack
• Answer all questions in the venues
• Collect stamps from each participating venue from identifiable festival staff
• Return to City Hall and receive your time of completion
• the winners will be posted on St Patrick’s Festival website www.stpatricksfestival.ie

Saturday 15th March – Ceili House Live

For a night of great entertainment, visit the national concert hall for Ceili House Live! With special guests such as music legend Frankie Gavin and Ireland most influential Trad group De Dannan as they preform together to give and amazing performance, also including performances from one of Ireland’s newest exciting young Trad Bands scene recent years! It is promised to be an unforgettable evening

Sunday 16th March – The Gannon Cup – University Boat Race

An exciting annual race between rivals University College Dublin and Trinity College will take place as they race each other down the River Liffey from O’Connell Street Bridge right down to St. James Gate where it finishes.

Sunday 16th March - The Big Day Out

Come along for a great day out to Dublin’s street carnival set in the beautiful Georgian area of Dublin. Enjoy some live street performances, Irish Language events, Music, dancing, open air shows and lots more!

Sunday 16th March – Irish Film- Finian’s Rainbow

Based on the 1947 Broadway hit, Francis Ford Coppola’s musical, is about a charming leprechaun and a pot of gold and a comment on 1960s US racial politics. Finian Mc Lonergan is the wizened, a twinkle toed Irishman who plants a stolen pot of gold near Fort Knox believing it will make his fortune. But he and his beautiful daughter Sharon cross paths with wily leprechaun

17th March – Saint Patrick’s Day

 

Monday 17th March - Saint Patrick’s Day Festival Parade:

Each year on the 17th March a St Patricks Day parade is held through the streets of Dublin, starting on Parnell Square (Beside the Castle Hotel) continuing down O’Connell Street, up Dame Street passing Christ Church Cathedral before finishing at St Patrick’s Cathedral. Thousands of people gather in the streets of Dublin to watch the parade go by. Ireland’s leading pageant companies and marching bands from around the world will make the streets come alive in spectacular style. Each year a special guest will be the grand marshal of the parade but who this will be is yet to be confirmed. The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is an annual event that creates great memories and great atmosphere for all Irish people and to people visiting Ireland who have never experienced it before. It promises to be a great day to remember for the whole family.
