RBS 6 Nations Rugby 2013
Ireland V England - Aviva Stadium - Sunday February 10th, kick off 3pm
The RBS 6 Nations rugby is held over the space of 7 weeks during February, March and sometimes extended to April every year by the international sides of Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Italy and France.
How the game works is each team has to play the other 5 teams once per season, the RBS 6 Nations Championship Trophy is then presented to the team who has earned the most points from each game during the season.
How the point system works is a team will earn 2 points for being awarded a win and a team will win 1 point for a draw in the game. In the event that 2 or more teams finish the Championship, each with the same number of points, the winner is decided on match-points difference (Meaning subtracting match-points 'against' from match-points 'for' in all Championship matches) In the event that there is still no winner then the winner is the team who gained the most tries during the Championship, after this if a winner is still not decided then the Championship is shared between the 2 final teams. When a team wins all 5 matches and the Championship the team is then given title of 'Grand Slam Winner'.
The Triple Crown is awarded to a team when competed for each season it is then awarded to a team from the 5 Home Unions (Ireland, England, Scotland & Wales) after they beat each of the other 3 Home Unions.
The 6 Nations Championship Trophy is made of 200 ounces of sterling silver. It was designed by James Brent-Ward and made by 8 craftsmen at the London Silversmith firm William Comyns, the inside of the trophy was originally silver but after all its use, was then changed to 22 carot gold to protect it. The trophy has 15 sides to it, each side represents each player and 3 handles, which represent the referee and 2 touch judges and around the end of the trophy is a wooden base, which is the emblem of each of the six National Unions. The trophy holds exactsly 5 bottles of champagne - one for each of the 5 challenging teams.
Some of the Irish players set to play on the Irish squad in RBS 6 Nations 2013 are Ronan O Gara, Shane Jennings, Donnacha Ryan, Jonathon Sexton, Conor Murray, Cian Healy, Denis Hurley, Rory Best & Keith Earls.
