Malahide Castle and Gardens

A beautiful Estate tucked away in one of Dublin’s favourite seaside towns.
This really is a fantastic day out for families, couples, or solo travellers alike with a little something for everyone.

For the families, there is an interactive fairy forest trail approximately 1.8km which will take about 1hr 15mins to get around. There are enchanting fairy houses, wooden sculptures and children are given a booklet to fill out while searching for markers, solving clues and answering questions throughout the trail.
A large children’s playground will keep them busy if they still have energy after the Fairy Trail. It caters for all ages with swings, seesaws, a sand area for toddlers, ziplines and tunnel slides for the older ones, climbing frames, rope bridges and much more.

There are plenty of picnic opportunities with seating areas dotted throughout the park, there are seating areas in the playground with benches and tables and then there is an abundance of green spaces to throw a blanket down and enjoy the sun.
The park also boasts a fantastic visitor centre where you can purchase all your tickets to their amenities, the exciting Avoca retail and restaurant area for purchasing food, gifts or souvenirs and a tuck shop in the cobbled courtyard that sells glorious whipped Ice cream in the warm months!

Sports enthusiasts you won’t be left wanting here either. There are 260 acres of parkland and woodland that have great walking and running trails for every level. A mature 9-hole par 3 golf course and 18-hole pitch & putt course will put those backswings to the test.
There are also sports pitches for group games and soccer, tennis courts, cricket pitches and a fitness trail with wooden exercise equipment at points throughout.

The stunning medieval castle itself boasts an 800 year heritage with generations of the Talbot family calling it home. Through the interactive and informative tours, learn about the historical events that shaped the family’s lives, explore the impressive and beautifully decorated rooms, take in the intricate furniture and art collections, and hear the stories of battles and banquets throughout the ages.

Last but definitely not least, don’t forget to take a wander through the Botanical Walled Gardens and Butterfly House before you go! Originally a kitchen garden which fed the house of their fruit and vegetables for over 200 years, there are many hidden gems in this space such as the Victorian Conservatory, the beautiful Rose Garden, Isobel Talbot’s Pond, the grass parterre and of course the star of the garden, the Butterfly House.
Enter the Cambridge Glasshouse to another world where 20 different species of butterflies flutter around you, with the backdrop of tropical flowers and fauna. The only one of its kind in the Republic of Ireland it is an experience like no other and a must see!
